the Darling Flagpole
July 4, 2002
At the annual family reunion held July 4, 2002, the historic Darling Flag Pole was raised again over the family property on Lincoln Avenue in Oakland. Last July 4th the pole, lowered by members of the family, underwent restoration. Originally, a mast from a Clipper Ship salvaged from the Oakland Harbor, it was given to Leo Edward Darling by the PG&E on his retirement and cemented onto position. It flew there from before the Second World War in 1940.
